Am I lazy? I used to wonder, as did many others. Don't get me wrong - I did all the things in my first three decades of adult life that would move me toward what many would identify as 'success'. At some point, in my '40s, I started to see things differently. I was feeling an internal dissonance, an estrangement from what felt deep and real to me.
In hindsight, I see that I had been over-riding the natural imperative to Relax and Rejuvenate. And, to weave Relaxation & Rejuvenation (R&R) into my daily routine looked very much like laziness and sloth. At least, through the lens of 'busy culture'. Yet, I began feeling more aligned with the Deeper Nature of Self. It was as if I had found myself though, admittedly, at the expense of any material gains I had been accruing.
There is a balance to be had between fully complying with the edicts and expectations of 'busy culture' and connecting and aligning with that deeper and authentic self that gets lost among the hustle and bustle. Is it entirely necessary to forego the connection with one's Deep Nature to achieve the much-revered material success? I tend to think not, though a readjusting of priorities does become incumbent.
For some, material gain may become diminished while pursuing deep authenticity. For others, when grounded and centered in their deep authenticity, they find that their creativity is enhanced, their effectiveness is boosted, and their overall sense of well-being is improved. And, from that place, an effective balance with the demands of 'busy culture' can be achieved.
