Humans are a part of Nature. Humans are Nature. Paradoxically, our cognitive capacities and abstracting brains have estranged us from the very Nature we are.
While many unimaginable inventions and advancements have contributed significantly to making life easier, we have also done some very serious degradation to the natural environment of which we are a part. I believe this degradation has led to a deep-seated dissonance that is the source of much angst and distress for a good part of the human population. What was once called 'free floating anxiety' may very well be the result of the estrangement from the very Nature that we are.
Many people find themselves on a quest to discover their 'authentic self'. A sort of existential journey toward a more satisfying life. I think we have to understand that the authenticity of our very selves needs to be connected to the very Nature that we are.
Enter Relaxation, as a way of stepping out of the demands and busyness of what I call hyper-culture. When we Relax through all the layers of roles, expectations, demands, clutter, clang, and convoluted complexity, we begin to approach the authenticity of the Nature that we are. Indeed, weaving Relaxation and Rejuvenation back into its natural place in our daily routines begins to move us out of the existential crisis that stems from our estrangement from the very Nature we are.
